In 2024 Jamie was selected as one of the Royal Scottish Academy’s “New Contemporaries” with his work, a triptych 'On with the Show'. Currently he is studying Advanced Studio Practice and following a mentoring programme at Leith Scool of Art. In 2025 he will be doing the Graduate Programme.
His art portrays the balance of the conscious and the unconscious, and explores themes of trauma, recovery and spiritual experience. It has been described as quasi-naïve, symbolic, figurative, outsider art and surreal. He mainly paints in oil but also creates icons, etchings and monoprints.
His practice is inspired by absurdism, the unconscious and sacred myths. This comes from an unconventional Christian faith, his fascination with the surreal, the divine and the transformation of trauma into beauty. His practice is influenced by his personal experiences of disability, injury and recovery.
His icons are interprerations of classical Eastern Orthodox images and made in collaboration with Charlotte Eldon. During his forthcoming residency at Leith School of Art starting this Autumn, he is planning to create a series of works based on the Stations of the Cross.
